San Francisco’s Chinatown, 1900. When a white woman is found murdered, and a Chinese man is named the prime suspect, the killing causes a social shock, and the public demands the closure of Chinatown. Chinese medicine practitioner Qin Fu and the eccentric Ah Gui (thrown together by sheer chance) race against time to find the true murderer amidst rising anti-Chinese xenophobia. The fourth installment in China’s highest-grossing detective-comedy franchise blends slapstick comedy with a powerful exploration of the Chinese Exclusion Act and the immigrant experience in turn-of-the-century America.
