The Performance and Communication Arts Department has some awesome events planned for this semester, and we’d love for you to be part of them! From inspiring talks, fun performances, and social events, to exciting contests, this semester holds many chances to connect, learn, and make memories with your fellow students and faculty. Below are just a few of the things we have in store for this semester and this academic year!

24 Hour Play Festival

24 Hour Theatre Festival Performance

When: Saturday, October 11th at 7:00pm

Calling all playwrights, actors, directors, and designers! Join us to learn more about the 2nd Annual 24-Hour Play Festival hosted by the Performing Arts Collective, University Theatre, and the Performance and Communication Arts Department. 

Last year's 24-Hour Play festival featured four world premieres of original plays, all written, designed, and performed by SLU students. We laughed! We cried. It was better than Cats!

Join this year's festival and test the limits of what is theatrically possible in 24 hours!

Forests and Fandoms: Crafting New Worlds with Dan Caffrey

How can genres such as horror and sci-fi be used to shape our understanding of the environment? Playwright, podcaster, and critic Dan Caffrey explores this question in "Fandoms and Forests," a thought-provoking talk that bridges the gap between playwriting, pop culture, and ecological storytelling.

"Fandoms and Forests" encourages creators—playwrights, screenwriters, and other digital storytellers—to consider how they can embed environmental narratives into their work. What makes a compelling eco-story? Perfect for writers, artists, pop culture enthusiasts, and environmentalists alike, "Fandoms and Forests" offers an engaging and accessible look at how storytelling shapes our perceptions of the planet—and how fandoms, much like forests, are living, evolving ecosystems that have the power to inspire real-world change.

Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual Public Speaking Contest

This year's Public Speaking Contest will be on November 18th!

Each year, SLU students share their unique talents at the Annual Public Speaking Contest. Students from across campus are invited to present a speech on any topic, from any class. Previous speakers have shared their passion for the environment, their community, and helping those in need. Speeches tackled tough issues, including climate change and school shootings.
