About Us
The Low-Impact-Living Greenhouse is a small, intentional group of individuals focused on the creation of community through the means of education, outreach and self-sufficiency. At the Greenhouse, we hope to foster a low-impact-living lifestyle, not only for the current house members, but also for the student body and the greater community. Through workshops, campus wide events and locally sourced, family style community dinners we are able to generate a greater sense of environmental awareness on the St. Lawrence campus. It is our hope that through providing consistent educational and experiential workshops based around self-sufficiency, we will be able to affect change within the campus community. It is our mission to serve as examples of how to live simply and locally on a high-impact college campus, promoting healthy, sustainable habits. It is our hope that through our workshops, dinners, and events we can generate a sense of environmental awareness within as wide an audience as possible, however it is also our belief that one cannot understand their ‘environment’ without understanding the people who compose it. We strive to bridge the gap between the SLU community and the greater North Country community as frequently as possible through several different forms of public events. By networking with local farmers, artisans and businesses, our goal is that students and residents will create lasting connections. One of the most important and effective means of living locally is knowing your community, and only through the cooperation of the community can we create environmentally conscious, low-impact lifestyles. Over the next few years we are working to continue collaborating with other clubs and theme houses on campus, as well as off campus collaborators, with the hope that we can get more people involved with low-impact, local living.
